Summary of Experience
Dr. Smith specializes in applying economic and statistical analysis to antitrust issues and to the evaluation of markets and regulation in the agriculture, energy, health care, and finance sectors. His litigation experience includes analysis of liability issues, quantification of damages, and estimation of fair market value in a broad range of industries, including corn farming, chicken processing, pharmaceuticals, building products, communications technology, and private equity. Dr. Smith’s finance and securities work has included analysis of due diligence and internal controls in connection with asset-backed securities, and his agricultural work has included analysis of support programs and cooperatives for various crops. His research on electricity pricing and on productivity and growth has been published in the Journal of Economic Behavior & Organization and elsewhere. Prior to joining Analysis Group, Dr. Smith was a lecturer in environmental and natural resource economics and in the economic analysis of legal issues at Boston University; he was also an economist with the Centre for the Study of Living Standards in Canada, where his research focused on productivity and innovation.
